Our Patients' Success Stories

We would like to introduce you to some of our patients and share their success stories with you.

See previous success stories!
Colby
Colby is an 8 month old Golden Retriever who has bilateral canine hip dysplasia. He was having a lot of difficulty and pain with all his activities. His owner, Lisa, wanted to explore all options before having surgery and came to us to see if we could help Colby. After 3 weeks he is doing significantly better and walking with less difficulty and pain. In Lisa's own words: "Thank you both for everything! You have made a great deal of difference in Colby's life as well as my family's. The service you provide is outstanding and also a huge source of comfort to all pet lovers that are lucky enough to have had this great opportunity."
Duke
Duke (yes, a girl named Duke), is our almost 8 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Black Lab/German Shepard mix. She has had a long history of knee problems, both knees have had TPLO's, the left knee had a reversal of the TPLO, and when she continued to have problems with it, Dr. Schulz preformed an arthroscopic scoping of the knee. As part of her healing process, Dr. Schulz recommended that we bring Duke in for therapy.

We were very impressed from the first session with all of your knowledge, as well as the time you took with our dog -- who's not always easy to work with. Duke loved every minute of her pool time, and would have chased after that duck all day if you let her. Aside from enjoyment, the swimming forced her to work and stretch in ways that she normally doesn't on our walks. From the first session to the last, we noticed a definite improvement, she was able to jump into and out of the car on her own, as well as go up and down the basement stairs, even play in the snow, all tasks that she had not done in previous months.

Our only regret is that we hadn't been able to do anything like this years ago -- it might have prevented some of her pain, or even the last surgery.

Mobius
Mobius is a 2 year old Bernese Mountain Dog who was diagnosed with dwarfism in his front legs; his bones continued to develop improperly so that both front legs have a gap between the two bones at the elbows. These issues put undue stress on his hind quarters, and in addition he was diagnosed with Lyme disease in the fall of 2003. In August 2004, Mobius partially tore his cruciate ligament on his right hind leg and subsequently underwent TPLO (tibia plateau leveling osteotomy) surgery. Angell Memorial performed the surgery and recommended hydrotherapy to help him recover.

Chip
Chip is a 7 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever who ruptured his cruciate knee ligament and had a TPLO procedure. With this type of operation the recovery is gradual but Chip came through it very well. What helped was his love of swimming. He came to the right place!

"Chip, Tom, and I want to thank you for the excellent and empathetic care that you provided for Chip after his TPLO surgery. The swimming and the prescribed exercises at home helped Chip's mental health, as well as his physical condition. We don't mean to take your technical abilities for granted, but what most impressed us was your "feeling for the dog" as an individual and your cheerful willingness to work with our previously very active and (always) high drive dog.

If either of our dogs reaches a point where hydrotherapy or physical therapy would be called for, we would happily return to work with you, and I speak highly of Chip's treatment whenever I get the chance."

Athena
Athena is a one year and 6 month old Chocolate Labrador Retriever who had ruptured both her Cruciate knee ligaments and had the traditional repair on both knees. She started aquatic therapy as soon as she was allowed by her surgeon. She had a speedy recovery and loved to swim!

"Thanks guys. She really loved it there, and I really think it helped."

Geordi

Cruciate repair November 2005

Luis, Mary; I can't express how thankful I am to you both for getting Geordi up and "running" again. He just effortlessly came up the stairs and strutted into my office with a toy in his mouth. It's so great to see him happy, pain free and secure on his leg.

Being a vet tech, when he had his cruciate surgery, I knew it would be a long recovery period. I also knew that adhering to a good post surgical rehab plan would be crucial to his long term success. Thanks for making that possible.

Your facility is wonderful and by offering a wide range of therapy options you maximized his results. Over and above is your professionalism and truly caring attitude. I was a little concerned how Geordi would react because he is shy and nervous. Your gentleness and compassion allowed Geordi to settle down in no time. Luis, I enjoyed watching him gain confidence and become your "swimming buddy".

I have highly recommended Good Dog to several of our clients and will continue to do so. You're the best!!

Geordi sends woofs & licks!!!

As always,

Carol R.

Hannah

Dear Luis and Mary,

Hannah is completely four-legged now after her surgery ... thank you for helping her with her healing and recovery. It's great to see her run and play for the first time in her life and know that her injury, adoption, and FHO surgery is all behind her and she's completely forgotten about it. She's able to race around now with the other dogs, and wrestle and tumble and look forward to a normal life.

Being able to swim in your pool helped her use up her energy in a safe and controlled way so that her hip had time to heal. The vet was really concerned about that because of Hannah's energy, but with all of the swimming, it wasn't a problem at all. Exercising on the treadmill with her little leg weight really helped her to develop the muscles in her injured leg so that she wouldn't learn to avoid using it. I think she enjoyed learning the exercises and jumping over the jumps, especially doing the weave poles.

We always enjoy coming to visit you both and appreciate your caring attitude and expertise.
